By frequently using Studio 5’s tools for thinking and organization, students develop their ability to be self-directed learners.
Tool #1 – The Action Cycle
The Action Cycle is drawn directly from International Baccalaureate publications and will be used as a thinking tool continuously, particularly During “C.A.R. Time”.
Tool #2 – The Moscow Method
The Moscow Method is a simple organizational tool designed to help students set and track priorities so they can “put first things first”.
Tool #3 – Student Schedules
Throughout the year #Studio5 students have moved from planning their own day, to planning their own week to now (February 2018) planning their own unit. Within their unit planning is also incorporated goals for the week and students are now using planning and scheduling skills (Self-Management Skills) developed earlier in the year.
Tool #4 – Gradual Increase of Independence
This has been developed by ISHCMC teacher Suzanne Kitto (@orenjibuta) to help students self-assess and thus direct their own next steps.
Tool #5 – Student written Evaluations of Learning.
